Trimester One Reflection

Ni hao! This is my Trimester 1 Reflection:

1) I'm really happy with my Mandarin Grades and Progress. My final grade was A+ and I worked really hard to achieve it.

2) I made a lot of effort in Trimester One. I achieved many goals. To achieve the goals I studied at home and worked hard in class.
a. I handed in my homework on time and completed properly.
b. I participated actively in the classroom.
c. My behavior was satisfactory; as at certain times I talked with my neighbor, or was distracted. But most of the time was behavior was very good as, I spent time making notes of the new words we learned in my character book and listening to Gu Laoshi.
d. For class work, I completed most of them, and if not, I completed it at home, though some of the assignments tended to be late.

3) a. I have achieved my speaking goal, which was being able to pronunciate properly. I still have room to get better, but I mastered it as much as I could in Trimester 1.

b. I also achieved my reading goal. I am now able to recognize all of the characters we have learned so far. I demonstrated this during our game of Around the World, with objects and rooms around the house.

c. For my Character Writing Goal, I only achieved half of it. I'm able to use all of the characters that I learned during the trimester and apply them to conversations with other people, but I don't know all the stroke orders by heart.

d. I didn't achieve my Listening goal as the goal was for me to figure out tone, just by listening to the word and use it in dictations for my pinyin.

4) My plan for Trimester 2 is to study hard, to prepare for my Unit 2 Test and to do well on the Test. I'd also like to master stroke orders as well as possible. Which I could achieve by noting them down in my character book, instead of just using it on character practice sheets. Another plan for Trimester 2, is to work harder on tone and be able to apply it to pinyin, or hear it. I need to promise myself that I will improve my behavior, and completion of assignments like THIS on time. I can do this, by organizing a schedule of times for me to do my Mandarin Homework. To improve my behavior, I can stop being distracted by my neighbor, and help those who don't understand the lesson.

I hope Trimester Two will turn out WELL!

Wo de Mandarin Goals!

Mandarin Goal Setting Form: Trimester One

Name: Cindy Zeufack

Level: Intermediate

Grade: 7

What is your difficulty in Mandarin?
  • Knowing and Applying the tones in everyday Mandarin
  • Pronunciation
Please list your goals in different areas:
  • Listening: Learning how to be able to tell what tone it is just by listening.
  • Oral: Being able to use pronunciation properly.
  • Reading: Recognizing the characters accurately.
  • Character Writing: Being able to use all of the characters that I learn during the trimester and apply them to conversations with other people. Knowing stroke order by heart and using them to make better characters.
  • Classroom participation: To participate enthusiastically in all activities.

For achieving my goal, I would like to do:
  • Listening: I will review the tones, and remember the sound of the vowel when influenced by the tone, and make sure to try and put the tone in the dictation.
  • Oral: Practice my pronunciation every other day.
  • Reading: Keep a record of the characters learnt and memorize them by heart.
  • Character Writing: Checking Gu Laoshi’s Mandarin Blog for stroke order and practicing it. Use the book record of characters to help me.
  • Classroom participation: Apply the SLR’s: Collaborate constructively—work with different people; reason critically—use different characters; think creatively—for projects; live ethically—reuse paper that hasn’t been fully used and learn enthusiastically—give 100% effort in class.
